Support for Android 8 Adaptive Icons
-
Does anyone know if Android 8 Adaptive Icons is supported yet in the builds?
If so, how do you setup your app to use them?
If not, is this a feature that can be added?
-
@jason_sbd Currently, the latest Cordova version in Monaca is 6.5. Adaptive Icons requires API level 26 which is not supported in Cordova 6.5. Therefore, Adaptive Icons are not supported in Monaca yet. However, we’ve already started working on Cordova 7 support. We hope to release it in the beginning of 2018.

Any update on this? API level 26 is rolling out to more and more devices and icons look terrible.
-
So, its no longer beginning 2018 :). Any timeline on Cordova 7 support?

@jptheripper Hi, sorry for a late reply.
The support for Cordova 7.1 is released since January. However, the adaptive icon is still not supported in Monaca. This is because Cordova doesn’t have any way of defining an adaptive icon in theconfig.xml
(see the issue here). There’s nothing we can do until it is fixed in Cordova. Thanks for understanding.

Android One and many other UI homes uses rounded icons, thus android resorts to “legacy” icon renders which encapsulates the icon inside a rounded one with a big padding, making it look odd, old or even ugly.

So cordova 8.0 has been out since February, and supprots adaptive icons. When will it be supported in Monaca?

Adaptive Icons are a new way of formatting and submitting app icons so that they can be cut down into a variety of shapes depending on the device or launcher a person is using. But ill provided best custom essay writing services for the student help.
